Muchacha Fanzine #16 - Decolonize Punk
Embora o punk seja caracterizado por ser anti-status quo e por abraçar uma ética do “faça você mesmo” (DIY), o estereótipo é que o punk é, por defeito, branco. Com o objetivo de celebrar os contributos muitas vezes ignorados de punks racializados, o Muchacha Fanzine apresenta “Decolonize Punk”, que explora como o punk é uma identidade política e uma subcultura radical usada por pessoas negras, indígenas e racializadas (BIPOC) como ferramenta de resistência contra a opressão sistémica. Misturando ensaios, arte visual, fotografia, escrita criativa, recomendações de bandas e letras, “Decolonize Punk” é um apelo à ação para combater as forças coloniais, supremacistas brancas e patriarcais que infestam a nossa cena (e o nosso mundo).
While punk is characterized as being anti-status quo and embracing a do-it-yourself (DIY) ethos, the stereotype is that punk is white by default. Aimed at celebrating the overlooked contributions of punks of color, Muchacha Fanzine’s “Decolonize Punk” explores how punk is a political identity and radical subculture that Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) use as a tool to resist systemic oppression. Blending essays, visual art, photography, creative writing, band recs, and lyrics, “Decolonize Punk” is a call of action to combat the colonial white supremacist patriarchal forces that infest our scene (and our world).
Daisy Salinas is a Xicana feminist zinester, punk, activist, & rabble rouser living in Yanaguana aka San Antonio, Texas. With the mission to uplift the voices and talents of artists of color, Daisy is the founder of the decolonial Xicana feminist zine Muchacha Fanzine and the feminist punk collective Xingonas in the Pit. She is also a member of the anti-system Tejana punk band Frijolera Riot. Through her art and the work of fellow people of color, Daisy aims to advance struggles for liberation on a global level.
